Speak Out!

On Saturday 27th March 2010, between 10:00am and 2:00pm, Newbury held its first ever Speak Out! event outside the Town Hall in the Market Place.

This Hyde Park Corner style event, open to both children and adults, gave local people the opportunity to tell everyone what they felt passionate about, what they believed in and what they thought should change in the world. Prizes were awarded for three age groups; up to 11, 12-18 and Adults.

Over 25 people took part with topics such as; How to stop energy waste in schools, Newbury Carnival, a local church’s plans to go green, Gap Years, Ayurveda for healing the mind and body, Penguins, Save the Orangutans, In defence of rhyming poetry and Save the Allotment.

Speak Out! was organised by the Club in conjunction with Town Centre Partnership Events Manager, Caroline Paus.

Derek Bingham achieves his Competent Communicator award. Ray Wilton and Phil Gladwell are Competent Leaders.

Alison Coles and Matt Simons achieve their Competent Communicator awards.

Jenny Mills achieves her Advanced Communicator Gold award.

Ray Wilton wins through in the Area 46 Evaluation Contest.

Afolabi Sekoni is a Competent Communicator.
